Rat Care
Rats make excellent pets...they are intelligent, loving, affectionate and responsive to human attention, much like little dogs. They enjoy running around and even going out with their people! If you've never experienced the joy of owning a pet rat, we invite you to make an appointment to come and see some of ours, and experience their varying personalities, mischief and fun.
Although rats are small animals they should be just as respected as any large pet you would take into your home. They require care, proper nutrition, veterinary and medical treatment, and more. Although they only live an average of 2 - 3 years, having them around can be an experience you will treasure the rest of your life.
Unless spayed or neutered, rats should be housed in escape proof cages in same sex pairs or groups, from the age of 4 1/2 weeks. They are very social creatures and need the company of other rats for their mental and physical well being. Very rarely a rat will need to be housed alone for behavioral reasons, and in this situation the rat will need extra love and attention.
